Starry Nights at Shelby Farms

Standard

Happy Christmas Week!  I’ll be celebrating here on the blog by having a Christmas-themed post every day leading up to the 25th (not many to go!).

This morning was busy with clients at the gym but I managed to squeeze in a few 400 repeats on the treadmill!  Since I’m not in serious training right now, I didn’t have to push the speed up too high – I warmed up for a mile starting at 6.0 and increasing .5 mph every lap.  Then I did 4 laps at 7.5 mph with a half lap walk in between.  I also snuck in some strength training for my legs, arms and shoulders!  So far so good on my vow to branch out….still working on getting a specific plan together to share with y’all.  Right now, just getting the reps in and weights lifted is enough!

I just returned from a festive run with Becca and Matthew.  We met up to run through Shelby Farms’ Starry Nights!  Nothing like combining running, a chilly evening, lots of lights and the community to make you feel like Christmas.  Shelby Farms puts this on during the holidays and you can enjoy it until December 30th.  Monday nights (tonight!) are closed to cars so bikers, runners and walkers can enjoy the lights too!  It only cost us $5 each (worth it) and took us less than an hour to enjoy.  It was nice to be running with friends again, talking about dates, Christmas plans, college plans and the displays.  I tried to take some with my iPhone but these photos are much better (from the Starry Nights website).

Welcome to the show!

The entrance was anything less than spectacular.  We continued along the trail through some very familiar parts of the race courses from the RRS this past fall.

Light up the night.

In the middle of the trail, there’s Mistletoe Village – home to Santa, hot dog and marshmallow roasting, games and photos.  We didn’t stop for any of that but I’m sure if there had been younger kids in our group it would have been a huge hit!

This little outing is just another reason I love this town so much.  What a great way to celebrate the outdoors, the holidays and being active!  WAY TO GO MEMPHIS!

If you live here and are thinking about going – go ahead and put it on your list!  Click here for more info.
